Supernumerary breast or polymastia is a congenital malformation of the breast which results in the existence of a supernumerary mammary gland in an ectopic situation, especially axillary. Its diagnosis is easy in the presence of a nipple and a milky discharge, but can be difficult in their absence leading to confusion with other etiologies of axillary mass. Its management is most often surgical because of the aesthetic impact but also to prevent the risk of neoplastic degeneration. We report through this observation a case of an axillary supernumerary breast collected in the service in order to describe the different pathological and therapeutic aspects.

Abstract

Le sein surnuméraire ou polymastie est une malformation congénitale du sein qui se traduit par l’existence d’une glande mammaire surnuméraire en situation ectopique, notamment axillaire. Son diagnostic est facile en présence d’un mamelon et d’un écoulement lacté, mais peut s’avérer difficile en leur absence prêtant à confusion avec les autres étiologies de masse axillaire.Sa prise en charge est le plus souvent chirurgical du fait du retentissement esthétique mais aussi pour prévenir le risque de dégénérescence néoplasique.Nous rapportons à travers cette observation un cas de sein surnuméraire axillaire colligé au service afin de décrire les différents aspects pathologiques et thérapeutiques.
