The department of Oumé is a local rice production area. Yet in Côte d'Ivoire, women occupy a central place in subsistence agriculture. This article aims to examine the contribution of women in the development of the rice sector in the department of Oumé. The methodology adopted to achieve this objective combined documentary research and field surveys. The results show that women, directly or indirectly, are key players at all stages. They operate small plots. The activity is 82% in the hands of foreigners. A large part of the income generated is used for family expenses, which often undermine their financial autonomy.

Le département d’Oumé est une zone de production du riz local. Or en Côte d’Ivoire, la femme occupe une place centrale dans l’agriculture de subsistance. Ce présent article se propose d’examiner la contribution des femmes dans le développement de la filière rizicole dans le département d’Oumé. La méthodologie adoptée pour atteindre cet objectif a combiné la recherche documentaire et les enquêtes de terrain. Les résultats attestent que les femmes directement ou indirectement constituent des acteurs clés de la filière du riz. Elles exploitent de petites parcelles. L’activité est à 82% aux mains des agricultrices étrangères. Une part importante des revenus générés est utilisée pour les charges de la famille mettant souvent à mal leur autonomie financière.
