The major issue of this study is to identify the causes and consequences of the fire in the city of Kinshasa. The aim is to analyze the statistical data of the fires recorded by the Corps of Firefighters of Kinshasa (in acronym CSPK) to know and understand the causes in order to characterize the consequences in order to better prevent them. This study is based on the fact that knowledge of the origins of the fire is the foundation of any effective prevention policy. The method of observation and the documentary method followed by investigations in the field (in particular surveys by interview with the victims) and laboratory work helped us to arrive at the results. The results obtained from our investigations and resulting analyzes show that anomalies in the use of electric current, poor management/handling or misuse of dangerous products or equipment (candle, flammable products, etc.), material failures on the part of the CSPK are the main causes of fires in the city of Kinshasa. The consequences range from material losses to those of human life, including serious injuries and burns to people who are victims of the fire.

La problématique majeure de cette étude consiste à identifier les causes et conséquences de l’incendie dans la ville de Kinshasa. Le but est d’analyser les données statistiques des incendies enregistrés par le Corps des Sapeurs-Pompiers de Kinshasa (en sigle CSPK) pour en connaître et comprendre les causes afin d’en caractériser les conséquences pour mieux les prévenir. Cette étude se base sur le fait que la connaissance des origines de l’incendie est le fondement de toute politique de prévention efficace. La méthode d’observation et la méthode documentaire suivies des investigations sur le terrain (notamment les enquêtes par interview auprès des sinistrés) et des travaux de laboratoire nous ont aidés à parvenir aux résultats. Les résultats obtenus à l’issu de nos investigations et analysent qui en découlent montrent que les anomalies dans l’utilisation du courant électrique, la mauvaise gestion/manipulation ou le mauvais usage des produits ou équipements dangereux (bougie, produits inflammables, etc.), les défaillances matérielles de la part du CSPK sont les principales causes des incendies dans la ville de Kinshasa. Les conséquences vont des pertes matérielles à celles en vie humaine en passant par des blessures et brûlures graves chez les personnes qui sont victimes de l’incendie.
