The DRASTIC methodology have been aplicated to determine the vulnerability to contamination of groundwater in the unconfined aquifer of R'mel (Larache, Morocco). The variables considered by this method have been mapped using the ARCGIS 9.3 software by mean the scan tool Spatial Analyst. The results were that 70,5% of the aquifer has a very low level of vulnerability; 17,9% low degree of vulnerability; 6,7% a moderate vulnerability, while the remaining 4,8% have no vulnerability. The application of this method was performed for the first time in this area by mean of this study and the results provide a basis for environmental management, land planning and its suitability for different uses and a starting point for future research aimed at protecting the aquifer contamination.

Se ha aplicado el método DRASTIC para conocer la vulnerabilidad a la contaminación de las aguas subterráneas en el acuífero libre de R’mel (Larache, Marruecos). Las variables que contempla este método se han cartografiado aplicando el software ARCGIS 9.3 mediante la herramienta de análisis Spatial Analyst. Los resultados obtenidos han sido que el 70,5% de la superficie del acuífero presenta un grado de vulnerabilidad muy bajo; el 17,9% un grado de vulnerabilidad baja; el 6,7% una vulnerabilidad moderada, mientras que el 4,8% restante no presenta vulnerabilidad. La aplicación de este método se ha efectuado por primera vez en esta zona mediante este estudio y los resultados constituyen una base de gestión ambiental y de ordenación del territorio y su adecuación a diferentes usos y un punto de partida para futuras investigaciones orientadas a la protección del acuífero contra la contaminación.
