The aim of this paper is to study the relationship between rural poverty and local governance while emphasizing the importance of the link between agriculture and industry. Our empirical study focuses on the case of Tunisia over a period ranging from 1990 to 2010. The estimation results show that a reduction of rural poverty is achieved by improving local governance and a complementary relationship between agriculture and industry.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to study the relationship between rural poverty and local governance while emphasizing the importance of the link between agriculture and industry. Our empirical study focuses on the case of Tunisia over a period ranging from 1990 to 2010. The estimation results show that a reduction of rural poverty is achieved by improving local governance and a complementary relationship between agriculture and industry.

l'objectif de cet article est d'étudier la relation entre la pauvreté rurale et la gouvernance locale tout en mettant l'accent sur l'importance de l'articulation entre l'agriculture et l'industrie. Notre étude empirique porte sur le cas de la Tunisie sur une période s'étalant de 1990 à 2010. Les résultats d'estimation montrent qu'une réduction de la pauvreté rurale est atteinte par amélioration de la gouvernance locale et une relation de complémentarité entre l'agriculture et l'industrie.
