يتضمن البحث أستخدام قوة كهربائية ( فولت) بمستويات مختلفة بوساطة مجهز قدرة متمثلة بـ1.5 و 3 و 4.5 و 6 و 9 و12 فولت لخفض وإزالة الكتلة الحية للطحالب المتسببة في خفض كفاءة محطات الطاقة الكهربائية أثناء عملية تبريدها بالمياه المجهزة من النهر. اظهرت الدراسة ان افضل النتائج في المعاملة كانت عند القوة بالـ 6 و 9 و 12 فولت حيث وصلت الإزالة للطحالب 100% بعد فترات زمنية 30, 54, 60 دقيقة على التوالي.اوضحت الدراسة عدم تحطم الجدران الخارجية أو الخلوية للخلايا الطحلبية المعاملة مع ملاحظة اصفرار الخلايا وبدون تمزق الجدار الخلوي مع تغير الحركة بطيئة إلى منعدمة ومن دون تغير إشكال الخيوط الطحلبية المعاملة.
