The concept of civil society does not have an official definition. It is a fuzzy and controversial concept which, like that of an NGO to which it is often associated, has nevertheless succeeded in becoming generalized, this forming an integral part of the vocabulary of politicians and social actors both in the North and South. is not new nor its meaning has undergone some evolution over time, recently the concept taken on a new dimension with what is commonly called "the emergence of global civil society" as well nowadays when we talk about society civil society refers mainly to NGO and formal or informal popular movements that act as counter-powers to the government. We often speak (civil society organizations) showing the heterogeneity that characterizes it, the evolution of this concept shows the rise of the role of civil society as an actor of international governance.

Abstract
The concept of civil society does not have an official definition. Le concept de société civile ne dispose pas de définition officielle. C’est un concept flou et controversé qui, comme celui d’ONG auquel il est souvent associé, a toutefois réussie à se généraliser, faisant ainsi partie intégrante de vocabulaire des politiciens et des acteurs sociaux tant en nord que sud. Le terme n’est pas nouveau ni son sens a subi une certaine évolution au fil du temps, récemment le concept pris un nouvelle dimension avec ce qu’on appelle communément « l’émergence de la société civile mondiale » ainsi de nos jours quand on parle de société civile on fait référence principalement aux ONG et aux mouvements populaires formels ou informels qui s’érigent comme des contre-pouvoirs face au gouvernement. On parle souvent (des organisations de la société civile) montrant par l’hétérogénéité qui la caractérise, l’évolution de ce concept montre la montée en puissance du rôle de la société civile en tant qu’acteur de gouvernance internationale.
