The future of contemporary microfinance depends to a large extent on the evolution of regulatory and legislative frameworks, both in terms of financial activity and the status and conditions under which the activity is carried out. In Benin, the legal and institutional framework has undergone several changes characterized by innovations at both the regulatory and institutional levels. In this article, we take stock of the various changes and innovations in the regulatory and institutional framework, focusing on some concrete examples.

Abstract

L’avenir de la microfinance contemporaine dépend en large partie de l’évolution des cadres réglementaires et législatifs, tant en ce qui concerne l’activité financière que le statut et les conditions d’exercice de l’activité. Au Bénin, le cadre juridique et institutionnel a subi plusieurs mutations caractérisées par des innovations aussi bien au plan réglementaire qu’au plan institutionnel. Dans le présent article, nous faisons l’état des lieux des diverses évolutions récentes du cadre réglementaire et institutionnel de la microfinance au Bénin en nous focalisant sur certains exemples concrets.
